The Crossroads therapists are all trained to the highest level and are all registered with their specific governing bodies. They work closely with our podiatrists to achieve a multi-disciplinary clinic. Our Crossroads administration team have a wide knowledge of foot care and the treatments we deliver and will be on hand to answer any questions and queries you may have.
Podiatry
Amy Martin
BSc (hons) MSCh, HCPC Reg, Associate Podiatrist
Amy graduated from University Wales in 2007, she has experience in Private Practice. Amy has interested in Musculoskeletal Podiatry, foot pain and high risk patients. Emma Protheroe
Emma graduated from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2006 with a First Class Honours degree in Podiatry, and also holds qualifications in local anaesthetics, pharmacology, first aid and kinesiology taping. She initially worked in Cardiff NHS as a community podiatrist and then moved to Swansea NHS where she worked for a number of years in the adult and paediatric Musculoskeletal Clinic. Emma set up Crossroads Clinic, later Crossroads Clinic Ltd with Sian Jones in 2010.
Emma is experienced in all areas of podiatry. Her area of specialisation is Nail Surgery and general podiatry. Emma is HCPC registered and a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists.
Gemma Suter
Gemma joined the team in July 2017, from as far back as Gemma can remember she has always wanted to be a podiatrist and was lucky to have had the opportunity to follow her dream. Gemma qualified with a 2:1 BSc Hons from Cardiff Metropolitan University. Before Gemma became a podiatrist she worked as a carer in the community where she gained valuable knowledge and understanding of the needs for the older generation and found the role of a carer very rewarding. Gemma is continuing to develop her skills within podiatry and specialises in nail reconstruction and The Lacuna Method for fungal nail infections, she also helped to develop our new range of Luxury Podiatry treatments.
Gemma is HCPC registered and a member of the Society of Podiatrists. She holds qualifications in Local Anaesthesia and Pharmacology for prescribing podiatry related medicines.

Sian Bufton
Sian Bufton qualified from University of Wales Cardiff with a degree in Podiatry and qualifications in prescription medication and anaesthetics.She joined the team at Crossroads in 2018 and is extremeley popular with staff and patients. Sian has a passion for nail surgery and bespoke treatments, she helped develop the Luxury Podiatry and Prende Wax treatments and has also been involved in our VIP evenings. Sian made her move in to the nhs in 2020 but still comes back to Crossroads to help out during busier times.
Sian Jones
Sian graduated from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2010 with a 2.1 Honours degree in Podiatry, and also holds qualifications in local anaesthetics, pharmacology, first aid and kinesiology taping. Sian initially worked as a podiatrist in private practice in Bristol, before setting up Crossroads Clinic Ltd. with Emma in 2010.
Sian is experienced in all areas of podiatry and has a particular interest in preventative care. Sian enjoys treating both the elderly and paediatric patients having treating patients from just 1 year old to a grand 102 years old! Sian’s area of specialisation is nail surgery with local anaesthetic for in-growing toenails, and performs both partial and total nail removals at Crossroads Clinic Ltd. in Gorseinon.
Sian is HCPC registered and a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists.
Foot Health
Jacquie Fagan – Fox
Jacquie joined the team in 2022 as a Foot Health Practitioner and works closely alongside the Podiatrists to provide foot care to all patients. Jacquie has a keen interest in verruca and wart removal and also runs her clinic “Apex Skin” from the clinic on a Wednesday. Jacquie is experienced in all areas of foot care and treats both new and existing patients at Crossroads. Jacquie also works closely with the Screen Cancer service to help provide skin screening and preventative care to patients. Jacquie is available on a Monday and Wednesday.
Musculoskeletal Podiatry with Dynamic Motion Wales
Derek Protheroe
BSc (hons), MSc, MSCh, SRCh, HPC Reg. Musculoskeletal Podiatrist, Podiatric Acupuncture.
Derek graduated from the University of Wales Cardiff in 2005 with a BSc (hons) degree in Podiatric Studies. He then completed an MSc degree in 2012 in Musculoskeletal Studies of the Lower Limb. Derek then went on to develop an interest in foot surgery and gained an MSc in Podiatric Surgery , he works in Hereford NHS as a Registrar in Podiatric Surgery. Derek has a keen interest in surgical techniques for the foot and ankle.
Derek initially worked in the NHS as a community podiatrist before heading to North Queensland Australia in 2006, where he treated a wide range of lower limb conditions, as well as consulting with some indigenous aboriginal patients.
Since returning back to the UK in 2008 he has worked as a senior community podiatrist for North Somerset PCT and a Muscoloskeletal Specialist in ABMU NHS Trust, treating high risk patients with musculoskeletal injuries, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and neurological conditions. During this time Derek has developed a keen interest into musculoskeletal injuries of the lower limb and their effects on rehabilitation and healing rates. Derek now works as an Extended Scope Podiatrist in the NHS for the adult and paediatric services, in both Podiatry and Orthopaedic clinics. He also works as a clinical supervisor for BSc Podiatry students in Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Derek is keen on the therapeutic use of traditional and modern acupuncture and utilising this within his treatment options for a wide range of conditions. As well as this he incorporates an holistic approach within his treatment using orthoses (insoles), stretching and strengthening exercises, taping and ultrasound. Derek is also qualified in the use of cortisone injection for the foot and ankle.
Derek is a keen marathon runner and triathlete and to date has just signed up to his 7th marathon, through his own experiences he understands the importance of educating patients in injury prevention as well as correct rehabilitation post injury.
Derek is HPC registered and member of the Royal College of Podiatry.
Derek is available for consultation every Friday morning 7.30am – 1.30pm

Liz Jones
Liz joined the team in 2020 after retiring from an administrative role in the NHS. She has a wealth of experience working alongside patients and organising busy clinics! Liz will be one of your first friendly contacts when phoning the clinic to arrange an appointment.
Sarah Jones
Sarah joined the team in 2012 and is a very popular member of staff with our patients! She is the first friendly face you will see when you attend Crossroads Clinic. Sarah holds a qualification in Health and Social Care and has a great knowledge of all the treatments carried out at the clinic. Sarah works on reception and also co-ordinates our clinics and associate staff members.
